In order to limit the damage caused by the ongoing coastal erosion, the municipality of Ystad has implemented a number of different coastal protection measures. These include the construction of five bridges and five open-circuit breakers in Ystad Sandskog, the construction of six heads, and a threshold drop in Löderups Strandbad as well as beach feeding within the two mentioned areas.

For beach feeding a total of 340,000 m3 of sand is required for a period of ten years (2011-2021). To this end, the municipality has also been granted permission under the law on the continental shelf to meet this need through a silt of Sandhammar bank.
